I'm not just concerned about my pupils' results but I'm also very concerned about their personal life and well-being. However, there are so many issues so little time to deal with it. Other than curriculum time to cover the chapters, I am left with so little time to speak to each of them personally. I realise there are some issues happening in the class. Some of them not making friends with the rest and problems with teamwork. Rumours spreading here and there..I know it's part of the growing process..I have been through that period so I know. I won't interfere unless it gets serious. Recess games were too violent..I asked Bryan, Alvin to stop playing the game before they hurt themselves. Then today Alvin fell when walking into the library. Sigh.. must always keep my eyes on these babies. I need to groom these kids because I think they will go far. However, good grades doesn't mean good personality and character. To be a sucessful person, they must have IQ and EQ. Some of them needs to be trained in EQ. I'm also worried about those who are not up to standard yet. Got to find ways and means to push them up. However, not only my effort do the wonder. They have to help themselves. Issues + problems + worries = Upset
My mind keeps thinking of them and the how to help ....even on weekends....But I still feel happy having them. Hopefully by end of the year I will manage to mould them into a better person with high achievement. Then I will be extremely satisfied and comforted.

CONTENTMENT
Have you ever, at any one time, had the feeling that life is bad, real bad,
and you wish you were in another situation?
You find life make things difficult for you, work sucks, everything seems to go wrong...
Read the following story... it may change your views about life:
After a conversation with one of my friends, he told me despite taking 2
jobs, he brings back barely above 1K per month, he is happy as he is. I
wonder how he can be as happy as he is considering he has to skimp his life
with the low pay to support a pair of old parents, in-laws, a wife, 2
daughters and the many bills of a household. He explained that it was
through one incident that he saw in India...that happened a few years ago
when he was really feeling low and touring India after a major setback.
He said that right in front of his very eyes he saw an Indian mother chop
off her child's right hand with a chopper. The helplessness in the mother's
eyes, the scream of pain from the innocent 4-year-old child haunted him
until today. You may ask why did the mother do so; had the child been
naughty, had the child's hand been infected?? No, it was done for two
simple words- TO BEG!
The desperate mother deliberately caused the child to be handicapped so
that the child could go out to the streets to beg. Taken aback by the
scene, he dropped a piece of bread he was eating halfway. And almost
instantly, a flock of 5 or 6 children swamped towards this small piece of
bread, which was covered with sand, robbing bits from one another. The
natural reaction of hunger. Stricken by the happenings, he instructed his
guide to drive him to the nearest bakery. He arrived at two bakeries and
bought every single loaf of bread he found in the bakeries. The owner was
umbfounded but willingly sold everything. He spent less than $100 to obtain
about 400 loaves of bread (this is less than $0.25 per loaf) and spent
another $100 to get daily necessities. Off he went in the truck full of
bread into the streets. As he distributed the bread and necessities to the
children (mostly handicapped) and a few adults, he received cheers and bows
from these unfortunates. For the first time in his life he wondered how
people could give up their dignity for a loaf of bread which cost less than
$0.25.
He began to tell himself how fortunate he is. How fortunate he is to be
able to have a complete body, have a job, have a family, have the chance to
complain what food is nice and what isn't nice, have the chance to be
clothed, have the many things that these people in front of him are
deprived of...Now I begin to think and feel it, too! Was my life really
that bad? Perhaps... no, I should not feel bad at all... What about you?
Maybe the next time you think you are, think about the child who lost one
hand to beg on the streets.
"Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, it is the realization
of how much you already have."
When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look
so long at the closed door that we don't see the one, which has been opened
for us.
It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also
true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives. The
happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just
make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest
future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in
life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

Lessons in life!!
Lessons in life!!
A group of working adults got together to visit their University lecturer.
The Lecturer was happy to see them. Conversation soon turned into complaints
about stress in work and life.
The Lecturer just smiled and went to the kitchen to get an assortment of
cups - some porcelain, some in plastic, some in glass, some plain looking
and some looked rather expensive and exquisite. The Lecturer offered his
former students the cups to get drinks for themselves. When all the students
had a cup in hand with water, the Lecturer spoke:
"If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up,
leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal that you only
want the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and
stress. What all you wanted was water, not the cup, but we unconsciously
went for the better cups."
"Just like in life, if Life is Water, then the jobs, money and position in
society are the cups. They are just tools to hold/maintain Life, but the
quality of Life doesn't change."
"If we only concentrate on the cup, we won't have time to enjoy/taste the
water in it."

Think Positive!!
Think Positive!!
This is nice - finding positive out of every negative - which we don't
always manage to do. I am thankful...
1. For the father who snores all night, because he is at home asleep
with me.
2. For my teenage daughter who is complaining about doing dishes,
because that means she is at home & not on the streets.
3. For the taxes that I pay because it means that I am employed.
4. For the mess to clean after a party because it means that I have
been surrounded by friends.
5. For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.
6. For my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the
sunshine.
7. For a floor that needs mopping, and windows that need cleaning
because it means I have a home.
8. For all the complaining I hear about the government because it
means that we have freedom of speech.
9. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot
because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.
10. For the noise I have to bear from my neighbours because it means
that I can hear.
11. For the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have
clothes to wear.
12. For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it
means I have been capable of working hard.
13. For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it
means that I am stilll alive.
HAVE A NICE DAY!

Pork Chops?

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.
The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.
After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans' that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs.
The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops? Take a look....you won't believe your eyes

Will It Be Majulah Singapura Forever ?
Just wanna highlight with you a newspaper article in today's the Straits Times (6th March)- Will It Be Majulah Singapura Forever ? asks MM Lee.
MM Lee mentions that he had gone through 4 anthems- God Save the King, Kimigayo, Negaraku and now Majulah Singapura. And his worry is that there is no proof that (majulah Singapura )will be the only national anthem that the future generation will sing.
The article also mentions MMs other fear: the challenge for Singapore is managing global effects on its local culture and that of continuity. Will Singpore be able to maintain its current system?
Well some of the NE messages are
We have confidence in our future.
United, determined and well-prepared, we have what it takes to build
a bright future for ourselves, and to progress together as one nation.
Singapore is our homeland; this is where we belong.
We treasure our heritage and take pride in shaping our own unique way of life.
The revised NE messages are found in the Communication Book. I will discuss this in class.
Can you sense the fear our leaders have for the future of
Singapore? What do you think about the fear they have? You can start a debate here with our comments function.
